The Story Behind These Little DIY Bath Treasures
My daughter wanted to make something special for me for Christmas. So, since I love taking long, hot baths she created a collection of bath bombs and fizzies especially for me. (The years of her playing in the bathroom sink as a young child, mixing everything she could find in the house has actually paid off. LOL ) She combined my favorite essential oil scent of lavender with some rose, then sprinkled dried lavender and rose buds in my bath bombs and fizzies. They looked and smelled amazing. However, what I love about them most, is that they moisturize and soothe my skin. I felt very blessed she did this for me.
I Am Now Hooked On DIY Bath Bombs and Fizzies!
After a few weeks, I was beginning to run low on these little bath treasures. I needed more to take me through the whole of winter. So, I asked my daughter if the Bath Bombs were difficult to make. She explained that it took some work experimenting with the recipe to get it just right, but with that done it was easy.
Hmm, all natural, look and smell amazing, moisturizing and soothing to the skin, made from natural ingredients and easy to make. To the DIY enthusiast in me, that meant only one thing; I need to learn how make these little bath treasures.
Let's Get Started
Last month my daughter spent the afternoon showing me how to make the bath bombs and fizzies. She was right, these DIY all-natural bath bombs and fizzies are really easy to make. In no time, I was making my own, and soon so will you.

Here's a list of kitchen tools you'll need:
- Kitchen scale for measuring the dry ingredients
- Measuring cup or medium for scooping out ingredients
- Small bowl to use with scale
- 4 cup or larger glass measuring cup
- Large ceramic bowl for mixing ingredients
- Small metal mixing spoon
- Large wire whisk
- Measuring spoons
- Clean dish towel

Ingredients List
Here is a list of ingredients you'll need. I have provided links to items my daughter and I purchased for this project. If you're wondering, no these are not affiliate links. I'm just offering you some good resources we've found: )
- 8 oz baking soda
- 4 oz Epsom salt
- 4 oz dry goat’s milk
- 4 oz citric acid
- 3-4 tsp rose water or distilled water (we used water from our RO system w/ultraviolet light)
- 2-3 tbsp of your choice of carrier oil (Almond, Jojoba, Coconut, etc.
- 3-4 tsp essential oil (you can mix scents to your liking.
Optional:
- 1/8 tsp – 1/2 tsp food coloring with natural pigments
- Dried Organic flowers of choice
A word of warning, use 1/4 to 1/2 of lavender essential oil to start, it’s really strong. Then add a couple of drops at a time, until you’ve reached the desired strength.
Did You Know?
I learned a little something about vanilla essential oil. 100% pure vanilla essential oils don’t exist. That’s because a solvent made from a petroleum product or CO-2 is required to extract vanilla.)
Okay, Let's Make Some All-Natural Bath Bombs and Fizzies
Step 1
Measure the dry ingredients by weight using a kitchen scale. Pour them into a large ceramic or glass bowl. Then with a whisk and fork, break up all the lumps in the mixture.
Step 2
Measure water and carrier oils with measuring spoon, then place into a large glass measuring cup
Step 3
Choose essentials oils of choice and add to the water and carrier oil mixture. Mix well with fork.
Step 4
While briskly whisking dry ingredients in large ceramic or glass bowl, slowly pour oil and water mixture into the drying ingredients. Pay close attention to the sound. If you hear fizzing, you are pouring the oil and water mixture in too fast and or not stirring fast enough. When all the oil, water mixture has been poured into the dry ingredients, keep stirring until the mixture is clump free. Test the consistency by placing some in the palm of your hand and then squeezing. The mixture should hold form when you release your fist.
Step 5
This step is optional: Dried flower buds or petals work the best with this all-natural DIY bath bomb recipe. Sprinkle a few into the bottom of the molds. If using round-sphere bomb molds, place the dried flowers into the bottom of just one side. We used lavender and rose buds for ours.
Step 6
Place a handfull of the clump free DIY bath bomb mixture into your mold of choice. (We used rose Fizzie molds and large and small round bath bomb molds.) Press contents into the mold very firmly. Add a little more bath bomb mixture to the mold and press with the heel of your hand again. Do this until the mold is full when pressed hard. For the more complex design molds like our rose molds, place the palm of one hand under the mold while pressing down firmly with heel of other hand.
Step 7
Gently remove the pressed DIY bath bomb mixture from mold and place on a cover board or large baking sheet.
To release the semi-sphere bath bomb molds, give them a little twist to release the molds. Then gently brush off and press down the seam that is formed around the center.
To release bath fizzies made in silicone mold like the rose shape we used, press gently from underneath to lift it out of the mold. Then gently pick it up and remove the bath fizzy.
Step 8
Let Dry for at least 8 hours.\
